Understanding Traumatic Memories: Repressed And Lost Memories

Repressed memoriesUnderstanding traumatic memories can be difficult.

Traumatic memories can be repressed and/or lost for years to come.

There are specific areas of the brain involved in this process. I talk more about it in this video.

In this video, I discuss complex PTSD and define its criteria. I separate and categorize components of the disorder and highlight symptoms.

“Trauma, especially early life trauma, is a risk factor for the development of both posttraumatic stress disorder and psychosis. The goal of the present study was to determine specific associations between exposure to childhood abuse, PTSD symptoms, and current psychotic disorder.”

“Post-traumatic stress disorder is defined as a mental disorder that arises from the experience of traumatic life events. Research has shown a high incidence of co-morbidity between post-traumatic stress disorder and psychosis.”
