Jealousy and envy are emotions that are normal for all humans. But when jealousy and envy happens in the family, things become a bit more complicated. Jealousy is defined as: “an unhappy or angry feeling of wanting to have what someone else has” (Merriam Webster Dictionary) .

Envy can be defined as painful emotion or discontent caused by an awareness of (or observation of) an advantage that someone else seems to have. That “advantage” may cause the envious family member to strike out at you (knowingly or unknowingly) because of their own feeling of inferiority, longing, and desire.
